Steve Borgatti, PhD

Chair, Professor - Organization Studies Department at Boston College

Dr. Borgatti earned his BA in Anthropology from Cornell University and his PhD in Mathematical Social Science from the University of California, Irvine. He taught at the University of California, Riverside and the University of South Carolina before coming to the Carroll School of Management in 1995. Prior to pursuing an academic career, Dr. Borgatti spent six years working for Boston-area management consulting firms, including the Planning Economics Group and Management Decision Systems (now Information Resources, Inc., of Chicago).

His research interests include intra- and inter-organizational networks, economic ecosystems, organizational culture, and mathematical/computational approaches to organizational theory. Recent publications include "Knowing What We Know: Supporting Knowledge Creation and Sharing in Social Networks" (Organizational Dynamics), "Beyond Answers: Dimensions of the Advice Network" (Social Networks), and "A Statistical Method for Comparing Aggregate Data Across a priori Groups" (Field Methods). Dr. Borgatti teaches courses in organizational behavior, research methods, interpersonal communication, and social networks.
